The TopLaxRecrits.com Preseason Girls’ Southern Rankings:
1. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (VA) 28-1: The Saints won the DC Independent Schools Championship and fell to Bishop Ireton in the VISAA state championship last year with a team that fielded only a few seniors. They will be a competitive force again this year with 14 seniors and over 20 Division 1 recruits.
2. Bishop Ireton (VA) 20-3: The Cardinals won the VISAA state championship last year and graduated a slew of All-Americans. They will be a little young, but with 15 D1 recruits they will again contend for state honors.
3. Milton (GA) 18-4: The Eagles won their sixth straight Georgia state 6A championshi and will return this year with many Division 1 recruits.
4. Vero Beach (FL) 20-3: The Fighting Indians claimed their 10th straight Florida state championship last year and will remain the state favorite until they give up the title.
5. St. Anne’s-Belfield (VA) 21-3: The Saints fell in the semifinals of the VISAA state championship last year and will again be a contender.
6. Ponte Vedra (FL) 17-1: The Sharks lost in the state finals to Vero Beach and should be a major contender again for state honors.
7. Walton (GA) 15-7: The Trojans fell to Milton in the state finals last year and should again be a threat.
8. Lake Norman (N.C.) 18-2: The Wildcats won the North Carolina state championship last year and is capable of repeating.
9. Barron Collier (FL) 22-2: The Titans reached the semifinals of the state tournament last year and return with the talent to make a run again this year.
10. Robinson (VA) 21-1: The Rams won the Virginia 6A state title last year and remain a leading favorite
Under consideration: Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.) 19-2, Charlotte Catholic (N.C.) 17-3, Charlotte Country Day School (N.C.) 12-5; Collegiate School (VA), Coppell (TX) 18-3, Lassiter (GA) 16-5, Olympia (FL) 19-3, Woodgrove (VA) 18-3, St. John’s (TX) 20-0, Hutchison (TN) 21-4.
