The TopLaxRecrits.com Preseason Girls’ Southern Rankings:
1. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (VA) 0-0: The Saints open today vs. St. Mary’s.
2. Bishop Ireton (VA) 0-0: The Cardinals open today vs. Georgetown Visitation.
3. Milton (GA) 4-0: The Eagles stay strong after defeating a strong Walton (GA) squad 14-9. They have a tough week ahead facing host Vero Beach (Friday), and then Lake Highland Prep (FL), and mighty McDonogh (MD) on a marathon event Saturday in Vero.
4. Vero Beach (FL) 9-1: The Fighting Indians defeated previously ranked #5 St. Thomas Aquinas 10-5. They will host the nation’s top-ranked team, McDonogh on Wednesday and then Milton on Friday.
5. Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.) 5-0: The Wildcats remain undefeated after a 10-9 rout of previously ranked #4 St. Anne’s Belfield.
6. St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) 8-1: The Raiders suffered their first loss against state powerhouse Vero Beach 10-7.
7. St. Anne’s-Belfield (VA) 1-1: The Saints started their season with a 10-9 loss to Cardinal Gibbons (N.C). They face Flint Hill School on Thursday.
8. Lake Highland Prep (FL) 8-1: The Highlanders remain strong in Florida with a 13-12 defeat of Ponte Vedra. They Milton (GA) this week for a tough matchup.
9. Olympia (FL) 12-2: Olympia fell to top ranked Vero Beach 13-7 but remain strong with two dominating wins over Celebration and Apopka. This week they play Bishop Moore, who upset Vero Beach earlier in the season.
tie 10. Ponte Vedra (FL) 10-2:The Cowgirls are strong this season with losses only to top ranked teams, including Walton 17-16 and Lake Highland Prep 13-12. They play McDonogh (MD) and Sts. Stephen’s & Agnes (VA) this week for a tough test.
Under consideration: American Heritage (FL) 12-1, Charlotte Catholic (N.C.) 4-1, Charlotte Country Day School (N.C.) 4-0, Collegiate School (VA) 0-1, Coppell (TX) 6-4, H.B. Plant (FL) 9-0, Hutchison (TN) 2-0, North Gwinnett (GA) 4-0, St. John’s (TX) 2-1, Woodgrove (VA) 0-0.
