Nathan Nicholas (Apex, N.C.) scored twice and Drew Wheeler (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) had five saves to help Team USA U15 defeat Team Canada, 8-4, Thursday night in the opener of the Brogden Cup at the University of Tampa.
The International tournament features the Middle School and High School champions of the National Lacrosse Classic as well as girls’ U17 All-Stars in best-of-3 series with All-Stars from Ontario (Team Canada) in an annual tourney to promote International growth of lacrosse.
Also scoring for Team USA were James Cardillo (Apex), Xander Craven (Franklinville), Maverick Shotwell (Raleigh), Thomas Parkes (Wilmington), Kavin Wood (Carey) and Coleman Kraske (Wake Forest). Caden Castle (Fuquay Varina) had two assists and Cardillo added one assist while Bryce Ledwith (Raleigh) posted two saves. Breyden Harrison (Apex) had two caused turnovers for Team USA.
Alex Rousell scored twice for Team Canada while Bowie Horsman and Dante Bowen each scored once. Nicholas Crowley and Lucas Dudemaine each had an assist and Noah Meridew posted 10 saves.
