Lake Norman (N.C.) 2016 attack/midfield Carly Vaccaro has been named the TopLaxRecruits.com Girls’ Player of the Week.

Vaccaro has led the Wildcats to a 10-1 start (8-0 in state) with 52 goals and 23 assists. Committed to Division II Tampa, Vaccaro plays club lacrosse for Midwestern Force and Southern Storm, and is hoping to help her team contend for a state championship.
How do you see your role as a key to the team’s success?
Vaccaro: “It’s not so much about scoring, it’s just the feeling of working as a team all the time. Scoring is a great feeling and I am glad I can contribute to my team, but being that we have multiple top scorers and great players it makes playing so much more beneficial.”
Your team suffered its first loss to Hinsdale Central (IL) on Friday; what did you learn that will help you moving forward?
Vaccaro: “We hadm’t had a game in the last two weeks along with being off for spring break, so we weren’t as prepared as we normally are for a big game. It definitely hurt to lose but we needed a loss to know how it feels and learn from our mistakes. Hinsdale Central was a good team and competition, but we didn’t bring our A game like we normally do and came out flat. Although we had a comeback in the second half, we let up and didn’t exceed our full potential.”
What are your team’s goals for this season?
Vaccaro: “Nothing less than a state championship. We’ve come so close the last two seasons. One of our main goals was to come out and beat one of our rivals who we have always lost to, Charlotte Catholic. We accomplished that one and now it’s all about winning the state championship and working harder everyday.”
What are you personal goals for this season?
Vaccaro: “My personal goals are to be a well accomplished player in all aspects of the game. I want to help my team in any possible way I can and be a leader to those around me.”
