From US Lacrosse

US Lacrosse today sanctioned three girls’ lacrosse tournaments owned and operated by LaxLife Events, Inc., as part of a new program to raise the quality of the youth tournament experience and publicize events that meet operational criteria developed by US Lacrosse and industry experts.Lax-life-2-e1427385548643

The STX Southern Lacrosse Showcase, Oct. 24-25 in Charlotte, N.C., the Atlanta Tournament of Lacrosse, Nov. 7-8 in Atlanta, Ga., and the Wishbone Championships, Nov. 14-15 in Orlando, Fla., represent US Lacrosse Sanctioned Tournaments, having been reviewed by the sport’s national governing body and deemed to meet best-practice standards in five categories: venue, game format, risk management, tournament administration, and certified US Lacrosse officials.

“The proliferation of youth lacrosse tournaments led to a wide range of experiences for players and families, and our sanctioning program will help to raise the quality of the experience at participating events and to give parents, who foot the bill for their child’s participation, some peace of mind that a US Lacrosse Sanctioned Tournament meets certain standards for consistency and player safety,” said Beth Porreca, director of events at US Lacrosse. “We appreciate LaxLife Events’ participation as one of the tournament leaders.”

All this year’s LaxLife event shave been publicized on TopLaxRecruits.com.

“We are extremely excited that the fall LaxLifeEvents are now US Lacrosse sanctioned,” said Linda Kelly, COO of LaxLife Events. “For the past 10 years we have created safe, organized, competitive, enjoyable events for all participants and spectators. Our number one goal is to grow the girls’ lacrosse game in non-traditional lacrosse areas. LaxLife Events are specifically designed to empower women through lacrosse. We are honored that our commitment to excellence has gained recognition from US Lacrosse. We appreciate all US Lacrosse does to keep the game safe and consistent. We are passionate about leading the continued growth of girls’ lacrosse.”

As US Lacrosse Sanctioned Tournaments, the STX Southern Lacrosse Showcase, the Atlanta Tournament of Lacrosse and the Wishbone Championships each will qualify two teams into each division of the US Lacrosse National Championships. That event will bring many of the best U13, U14 and U15 teams in the nation together in July 2016. Specific dates and a location for the US Lacrosse National Championships are expected to be announced soon.

From US Lacrosse

US Lacrosse, the national governing body of men’s and women’s lacrosse, announced today that the organization has awarded 22 new grants as part of its Chapter Grant Program. These awards support the local lacrosse development efforts of regional US Lacrosse chapters.US Lacrosse grants

Each chapter submitted its grant request based on locally-identified initiatives and priorities. Approved grants will be utilized for various activities that support the growth of the sport at the grassroots level.

“US Lacrosse is humbled by the hard work and dedication of the men and women who lead our regional chapters throughout the country,” said Steve Kirr, director of regional development at US Lacrosse. “The chapter grants serve annually to finance programs and services to local lacrosse organizations benefiting our membership and the sport of lacrosse.”

US Lacrosse has 67 chapters nationwide that help deliver many of the programs and services offered by the organization. Each chapter has a leadership board that works in conjunction with the national office to identify local priorities and organize chapter and regional initiatives. Grants typically range from $500 to $2,000.

In alphabetical order, the US Lacrosse chapters receiving 2015 grants and a brief description of the use of the grant are below. Some chapters received more than one grant.

From US Lacrosse

US Lacrosse today announced that 110 teams and organizations have been selected as recipients of 2015 First Stick Program grants. US Lacrosse will partner with these programs over the next two years to provide comprehensive resources, including equipment, US Lacrosse membership and coaches education training, to assist them in becoming self-sustaining programs that operate by US Lacrosse’s national standards and best practices.US-lacrosse1

Boys’ programs received 73 grant awards and girls’ programs were awarded 37 grants. The recipients represent 36 different states. This national US Lacrosse initiative is designed to assist new and developing youth and high school lacrosse teams nationwide.

“We congratulate each of these recipients because there was a very strong applicant pool once again and a very competitive selection process for the First Stick Program,” said Meghan Chaplick, senior manager for programs at US Lacrosse. “We look forward to partnering with these teams and organizations, and supporting them with developmental resources to help them become self-sustaining programs.”

Applicant groups are required to demonstrate a financial need and verify their status as a community based youth team or organization, or an elementary, middle or high school team in order to be considered. One of First Stick’s primary goals is to help break down the barriers to participation by providing free and/or discounted resources to new teams.

The First Stick Program is a US Lacrosse initiative supported by many of the nation’s leading manufacturers, distributors and retailers of lacrosse equipment. To see the full list of supporters, or to read more about the program, please visit uslacrosse.org/FirstStick.

TOWSON, Md. – On Sunday, the Towson University men’s lacrosse team held its prospect camp for nearly 130 players at Johnny Unitas Stadium. The players practice from 9am-1:30 p.m.. Head coach Shawn Nadelen and some of his assistants and current players helped guide the day.

The first portion of the camp was fundamental and stick skill driven. The players worked through many drills focusing on footwork, moving the ball, creating offense, and man-to-man defense.

Even the face-off specialists had some time to work with the FOGO coaches and players from Towson.College prospect camps

The second portion was scrimmage based, but with instruction and coaching to keep the play on the field honest.

Click here to see the list of College Prospect Days and other events to come in the Fall and Winter. To have your event listed for a nominal fee, click here.

Here are some of the players that shined from the event:

Ripken Reynolds, Coppell HS (TX), C2C, Midfield/FO 2017- Reynolds is a solid athlete that is not just suited to faceoff. The Coppell junior has good stick skills and moves well with and without the ball. Always has his stick up ready for the pass. Reynolds won some impressive and tough faceoff duels.

Joey Salisbury, Poolesville (MD), LaxFactory, D/LSM, 2016, Salisbury has good instincts and knows the defensive side of the game. Solid array of checks, moves his feet well when working on one-on-ones.

Matthew Popeck, Sherwood HS (MD), FCA, Defense, 2017, Popeck is an animal with the longpole. Good checks. Quick hands. Moves his feet at all times and has his head on a swivel.

Landon Trout, Pikerington North HS (OH), Resolute, Attack, 2017, An athletic middie with good lax I.Q. Tremendous footwork, And he made a nice feed to an attackman who was on the crease for a goal.

Sean Nelson, Cardinal Gibbons (NC) Defense, 2017, I thought Nelson was the top defender on the day. Nelson is a big kid with quick feet. He delivered a check that made the attackman he was playing lose his stick. Very good mechanics and fundamentals.

Sean Donnelly, IMG Academy (FL), Attack, 2018, Donnelly is great around the cage. Moves the ball well. Quick hands and feet. Made some nice plays and had a couple goals.

Kyle DeCrispino, Mount Saint Joseph (MD), Zingo’s, Attack, 2018, Lights-out attackman, with a solid shot on cage and moves the ball with ease. Isn’t selfish. Tremendous athletic ability. Has to the makeup to be a Division I attackman.

Liam Donovan, River Hill (MD), Roughriders, Defense, 2017, He doesn’t quit and he has really good checks. Donovan is a stocky kid who has some size and strength. The more he plays the better he will be.

Dylan Wolf, Fallston (MD), Midfield, 2017, Wolf has quick hands, he pressures the ball well as a SSDM. He is another kid who doesn’t give up on the play.

Carson Daspit, The Woodlands HS (TX), StickStarLax D/LSM, 2018,
Daspit has good size. Nice checks as well. Love how he slides to the ball. Moved his feet well. Very athletic and has good lax I.G.

From US Lacrosse

US Lacrosse, the national governing body of men’s and women’s lacrosse, announced today that the organization has awarded 29 new grants to encourage and empower lacrosse participation in underrepresented communities. These awards, made through the Diversity & Inclusion Grant Program, will be utilized by local organizations to initiate and continue programs that promote lacrosse diversity participation and education.US-lacrosse1

The majority of the D&I grants range from $1,000 to $3,000, and are awarded in six separate categories: community impact, disability access, girls’ initiatives, urban outreach, event support and BRIDGE programs.
