Lars Homan, 2022 MF
FREDERICA, Del. – Lars Homan said it’s easier to get psyched for showcases this summer because coaches are on the sidelines. Motivation was high Friday for the Duke’s Elite and North Penn HS (PA) 2022 midfielder, who was named MVP of the Victory Events Liberty National Elite Showcase at Delaware Turf.
“Really, I just wanted to make a name for myself and get recognized,” he said. “I really am excited this summer that the dead period is over and coaches get to be on the field recruiting and watching us play.”
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Homan showed off a strong dodge, good transition and passing skills and a solid ride.
“It feels great; I wasn’t expecting it (The MVP award) coming in, but getting recognized by the coaches feels awesome,” said Homan, whose Duke’s Elite squad reached the 2022 AA championship game at the Victory Liberty National Elite Tournament. “The Showcase went well, and things worked out on the field.
“I had great coaches on the sidelines helping me out and my teammates were moving the ball around well. I was making all my shots and getting a lot of attempts and good dodges. I was happy with how I played.”
This season at North Penn, Homan was a team captain and an Honorable Mention Suburban One National Conference selection, collecting over 20 goals and assists. He said he was happy to get a full season after the disappointment of losing the 2020 campaign and a chance to play with his older brother, Jake, who played this spring at Chestnut Hill College.
“It (the pandemic) was pretty hard, especially losing the high school season,” said Homan. “That hurt, losing the chance of playing with my older brother and other friends on the team.
“But once we had the quaratine, I really had time to go work on my shooting and work out. I focused on the (last summer).”
Owen Ryan, 2022 DEF
Homan describes himself as a middie who enjoy “playing two-way, I am pretty good in transition and can push the ball down field and dodge downhill hard.”
Homan is not picky on his college choice, but wants to stay fairly close to home.
“I am looking at a mix of schools,” he said. “I want to stay somewhere on the East Coast.
“Obviously, I have to keep working on my stick skills – they can always get better. I will keep hitting the wall and work on my shooting. Overtime everything should improve. I want to get better at making one hard move and dodging downhill and moving the ball quicker out of my stick.”
Owen Ryan, 2022 DEF, 10-29 LC, Thomas Worthington, OH
“Coming here (the East Coast) tests your skills. I really wanted to stand out and put it all out on the field. I knew I had to communicate and you have to get to know you defenders and know how they play so you can get some chemistry. My strength is groundballs and ball control. This (event) showed me how to be a leader. We expanded our club team to another school and I didn’t know the guys; also at the showcase you have to be a leader.”
Cam Wilcox, 2022 DEF, Myers Park, Team Carolina, NC
“I really didn’t have too high of expectations because I got wait-listed, so it was just a good opportunity to come out and play. This is really my first full season in the club lacrosse spectrum, so coming out I knew the competition would be tough. I took a deep breath and just played how I always play – use the body, and it worked out well. I like communication land I love quarterbacking the defense.”
Grant Rose, 2022 DEF
Grant Rose, 2022 DEF, Richmond Roughriders, Kellam, VA
“Everything went well and it was great to meet new players and learn new tips and tricks from other coaches while .understanding college coaches and the recruiting process. I am looking anywhere from D1 to D3; my strengths are communication, and teamwork and, I would say, 1-v-1 defense. I am 6-2, 185 and I would say I need to keep getting in the weight-room and work on my speed and size to help me at the next level.”

DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. – Cade Faulkner (St. Viator-Ill., Team Illinois) said he took an aggressive approach to competing in the NXT Philly Boys’ Showcase Saturday at United Sports.
Cade Faulkner
“You have to be playing your heart out every time you step on the field,” said Faulker, an attackman named the 2023 Showcase Games MVP. “You have to keep playing with confidence. When you have a guy on you, you can’t be scared. You have to attack him and try to be top side all the time.”
How was the competition?
“The competition was great,” he said “Most of these kids are going to end up going D1; and everyone is coming from all over the country. Playing with Canadians and players from the East brings the best competition in the world. It brings up your game; everyone plays well together.’
Faulkner said his goal was to show that the talent in Illinois and the Midwest can match up.
“I would say that Illinois is looked down upon,” he said. “Actually, there is a lot of good talent in Illinois. I just wanted to play with confidence. I think all the wall ball in the backyard has paid off.”
2025 – Jacob Thibodeau, ATT, Middlesex School-MA, Top Gun Clams
A quick and adept dodger at left-handed attack, Thibodeau displayed his all-around skills with a nifty ally-oop goal in the All-Star Game.
“I just wanted to come here and have fun,” he said. “I had a good experience last year (he reclassified after a transfer from West Springfield) at the Showcase. I wanted to be an All-Star, but I couldn’t have done it without the showcase team. We had a lot of chemistry.
“I felt my legs were fresh. My dodging the first couple games went really well. I was beating my man and finding someone open or getting to the front of the net and scoring. I think dodging is my best attribute.”
2024 – Luis Gonzalez, ATT, Ashley-N.C., Nationals
Luis Gonzalez
Gonzalez said one of the best parts of the showcase was having players on his team and other teams from every region of North America.
“Like every other player here I wanted to be an All-Star, but I also wanted to have fun,” he said. “I got to meet new people. It was awesome; even on my team there was a kid from British Columbia, and I got to find out what he’s about, what he likes. There were people from other cultures and backgrounds.
“It was a great experience overall. I played my best and it turned out well. I was a on a great team (in the showcase games) and we had good team morale. I played my heart out.”
Gonzalez – who suffered a broken bone in his shoulder and missed half the scholastic season, held in January and February for public schools in North Carolina – said his fall season has gone well.
“I got back for the summer and I have been showing out every event I go to. I am always having fun,” he said.
King of the X champion Giuseppe Morici, 2023 FO, Washington Township-N.J., Legacy/SJ Shamrocks
Giuseppe Morici
Faceoff specialist Giuseppe Morici committed to St. Joseph’s University less than 3 weeks before entering the Showcase.
He never considered dropping out of the event.
“I just wanted to get the reps in and i felt it would be good exposure,” said the Washington Township (N.J.) 2023 who represents Legacy and South Jersey Shamrocks. “It’s definitely good bragging rights for South Jersey and also I figured it would build up St. Joe’s.”
Morici did his part Saturday in gaining exposure for his current and future teams by winning the King of the X faceoff competition and being named a 2023 All-Star.
“I did pretty well in the showcase games,” he said. “It was pretty good competition, I had to watch my opponents before I played them so I knew what to do in the games.”
What was the key to winning the King of the X?
“Defensive exiting,” he said. “Everybody knew how to counter, and knew what they were doing.”
