Alex Concannon (Syosset-NY, 2015 Johns Hopkins commit) scored off a Noah Taylor (Watertown-NY, 2015 Albany commit) feed in the first possession of overtime to lift SweetLax National to a 7-6 overtime win over Six Nations Wednesday in the HS Elite title game at the NDPLacrosse Dick’s Tournament of Champions at Wesley Chapel, FL.

Gerard Arceri (Smithtown East-NY, 2016 Penn State commit) set up the game-winner by winning the opening face-off in overtime after Sweetlax tied in in the final 15 seconds on a goal by Concannon from Travis Ford (Webster Thomas-NY, 2016 Fairfield commit). Concannon was named the Under Armour Game MVP.

The HS Elite title was the second straight for SweetLax National, which trailed, 3-1, at halftime.

Rising Stars Division: The Road Warriors (N.C.) defeated FCA, 5-4. Percy Booth (Lafayette HS, Onondaga Nation-NY, 2016) earned the Under Armour MVP for the Road Warriors with two goals and an assist.

U15 final: Madlax Nationals 11, Sweetlax National 2017 (NY) 9. Under Armour game MVP: MadLax’s Austin Stewart (2018 from St. Stephen’s and St Agnes School, VA) with one goal and three assists. Madlax downed undefeated Brady’s Bunch (CA), 5-4, on a goal by Luke Curran (Gulf Coast, FL) off a Connor McCulloch (2018, St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes) feed with one second to play. In the semis, MadLax rallied from a three-goal deficit over FCA, 6-5, in OT as McCulloch had three goals and a game-winner off a feed from Stewart.

In the final, Joey Epstein (Landon School, Hopkins commit) was a force and McCulloch added a hat trick while Shane Corcoran (The Heights School, DC) was brilliant in goal, Ricky Miezan (Episcopal, UNC commit) excelled and defender/LSM Jack Scalia (The Heights) was a standout.

“There were explosive offensive efforts from both teams,” said Madlax coach Cabell Maddux. “There were five really good teams in this tournament and someone had to be the fifth seed – and it was us because we lost in the round robin. But we won some tough games and really earned it.”

From Press Release

The Passport Alliance is pleased to announce that it has recently added two very strong lacrosse clubs, bringing this alliance to 11 like minded programs.Liberty bell challenge

The addition of Rock Lacrosse (MD) and Team Carolina (N.C.) brings the alliance to 11 very prominent, well respected clubs that excel with their top players often high on the list of college coaches. Indeed, the top 75 college programs in Division I, II and III frequently boast of players coming from the following Passport Alliance Club programs. The quality of the clubs in this alliance, led by club owners that truly focus on developing their players into high level NCAA college level student-athletes is most impressive.

You need only review current college rosters and you will see where many players are coming from:
Dukes (Philly – Pa region)
CT Chargers (Fairfield County, CT)
Rock Lacrosse (MD)
Team Long Island
Orange Crush (Upstate NY-Syracuse region)
Team Turnpike (NJ)
Evolve Elite (Canada)
Legacy Long Island
Twist (Philly – Pa region)
NJ Riot
Team Carolina (N.C.)passport-Alliance

The Passport Alliance is introducing the Liberty Bell Challenge in Philly during the peak of the college recruiting period, July 10-12, 2015, where selected individuals and Alliance teams will battle in one of the most competitive showcase tournaments ever held in the hotbed of Philly lacrosse. The volume of potential college recruits and committed players all competing in a limited, individual and club team showcase is going to be a small, but high charged and competitive boutique event.

The individual showcase will be held on Friday, July 10 and the team showcase will be held Saturday and Sunday July 11 -12th 2015. Many college coaches are expected to attend in hopes of identifying potential roster candidates.

All players are welcome to apply for the individual showcase, even if your club is not attending the Liberty Bell Challenge. To apply for the event, please visit: http://www.libertybellchallenge.net/register/

There is no doubt that the leading college coaches from around the nation seeking to identify great potential student athletes for their limited roster candidates for their specific program will likely be showing up.

“The Duke’s Lacrosse Club is excited to start the New Year as a part of a special alliance of high school club teams that embody and embrace the true spirit of the sport of lacrosse. It is a group of club teams that will become our extended family who we will compete against each other with class, energy and a special devotion to the sport that has not been seen before.” Ebe Helm, Duke’s LC President.

“The Ct Chargers Lacrosse Club is proud and excited to be part of the newly formed Passport Alliance that will allow our program to be associated with such an outstanding group of club teams. The Liberty Bell Challenge will be the first step in establishing the position and stance of this awesome group of clubs and promises to be one of the top high school club tournaments and individual showcases of the summer.” Jeff Brameier, Founder of Ct Chargers

“Rock’s core philosophy is based on the development of our players while simultaneously providing a level of recruiting exposure that allows our players to be evaluated by NCAA programs. The only way to achieve both is to play in events with the highest level of competition, attended by the top clubs in North America, hosted at a accessible venue, in a setting that allows NCAA programs to effectively and efficiently evaluate our players. As our sport continues to grow the expansion of club lacrosse and tournaments has created numerous challenges. Where do we find the right combination of teams, at the right venue, that will be attended by the by the highest number of college coaches? The Passport Alliance allows Rock Lacrosse to collaborate openly with North America’s top club programs and attend tournaments, like the Liberty Bell Challenge, that provide a level of assurance that eliminates previous unknowns and ensures that Rock will achieve its goals. Rock Lacrosse is proud to be an Alliance member and looks forward to continued collaborative efforts with alliance members to provide tournament experiences that will continue to support the growth and expansion of our great sport.” – Kevin Mayer, Director-Rock Lacrosse
Passport alliance

“We are excited to be part of the first ever Liberty Bell Challenge and to be competing against many of the top club programs in the country. This will not only be a marque event on the summer circuit but also an opportunity for every one of our players to interact on a personal level with the players they are competing against. This is why the Orange Crush joined the Passport Alliance, because of the clubs involved and their like mindedness of how to run their program currently and their future vision. Great people and a Great opportunity.” – Steve Scaramuzzino, Orange Crush

Twist Lacrosse founder Greg Flego, who built his club to sit at the top of one of the hottest lacrosse markets in the nation, and whose performance at countless events has an earned a reputation amongst college coaches, had the following to say: “The Philly market is now as competitive and crowded as the L I, Maryland, and Fairfield County, CT markets. Philly has earned its spot on the national lacrosse radar as a premier “hotbed” of competition. Our Twist players deserve to be not just college players but college stand outs. The Liberty Bell challenge and the Passport Alliance events will give our student athletes that stage. The college coaches know our club well, and will now have the ability to see our players shine in a small, high charged venue.”

“Legacy lacrosse is very excited to be part of the Passport Alliance. The alliance will provide competitive lacrosse, recruiting opportunities and synergistic relationships between many of the top lacrosse clubs in the country. In addition, our alliance creates an unrivaled opportunity within the lacrosse community.” -Tom Zummo, Founder of Legacy LI Lacrosse

“With the boom in the northeast lacrosse pool growing exponentially each year, the need for a top flight, well organized individual and club team showcase has been solved with the formation of the Passport Alliance and its inaugural event, the Liberty Bell Challenge. New Jersey Riot is proud to be included in the arena that exposes our players to high level competition and college coaches in an elite boutique environment.” Lee Southren, Founder of NJ Riot

“Team Turnpike is now entering its 12th summer of Elite competition and we can not be more excited then to work with our fellow Alliance members to provide our families with a first class experience the Liberty Bell Challenge will provide! With the landscape of summer lacrosse ever changing the Alliance will put our Turnpike members ahead of all other club programs outside of the Alliance! Great competition, great recruiting opportunities!” – Kerry Weigner, Co-Founder of Team Turnpike

“Evolve Elite Lacrosse Canada was created to support the development and evolution of Canadian lacrosse athletes. Canadian players continue to make an impact at the NCAA level and more are dreaming of playing in the NCAA. With opportunity, comes success. Evolve Elite Lacrosse is proud to be a part of the Passport Alliance which will allow Evolve Elite Canada to promote Canadian players at highly recruited events. Such platforms will allow Evolve athletes to showcase against some of the best competition in North America and in front of a vast number of NCAA coaches, so such dreams become realities.” – Tracey Kelutsky, Founder of Evolve Elite in Canada

“Team Long Island Lacrosse has been attending high level elite lacrosse tournaments for the last 20 years. During those 20 years we have enjoyed relationships with many like clubs that have had the same goals and standards as our club. However, as the years have gone by and many new clubs have been formed it has become more difficult to find tournaments that consist of teams with the same standards and qualities that Team Long Island has enjoyed over its tenure. The forming of the Passport Alliance and joining forces with the other 10 clubs who all share the same goals and standards will insure that we will once again be surrounded by the best talent in the country and be provided with high level competition and venues that will allow our members to showcase their talents while providing the college coaches a venue that will be second to none. Team Long Island Lacrosse is proud to be a member of the Passport Alliance.” – Mike Gongas, President and Founder of Team Long Island Lacrosse

Michael Desmond, director of Team Carolina has expressed that “Team Carolina’s focus has long been to give the top players in our region the opportunity to play together against the best competition. In order to play the top clubs we have the added expense of traveling to the Northeast 4 to 5 times each summer. With the almost daily changes to the lacrosse tournament scene, it is becoming more and more difficult to find valuable events for our players and their families. The Passport Alliance teams and the Liberty Bell Challenge competition is the perfect fit for the Team Carolina mission.”

“Ten-plus years ago, the club business barely existed and the tournaments combined A, B, and C level talent. Today, the club business is large and very diverse and the volume of types of tournaments and quality of attendees varies greatly, which makes selecting which to attend much more complicated. Limited boutique events that allow the top clubs to compete at the highest level will allow players to get great exposure to college coaches when they showcase their abilities against equally top competition. The Passport Alliance gathers like minded clubs and the Liberty Bell Challenge will be the first venue which is expected to be very exciting.” – Ryan Nizolek, Former UVA standout, HS AA, former professional player in the MLL, and Executive with the Passport Alliance.

We may be adding 1 to 3 additional club teams that are a good fit for both the Liberty Bell Challenge and the Passport Alliance.

For any further information regarding the Passport Alliance or the Liberty Bell Challenge, please reach out to Ryan Nizolek at Info@passport-alliance.com.

Staff Report

Was your New Year’s Resolution to commit to your dream college?

It was for Ian DeValliere, a 2015 goalie from Bishop Manogue Catholic in Nevada. Coming from a non-traditional lacrosse state in the Midwest, DeValliere was looking to play at a high level, perhaps on the East Coast.

Ian DeValliere

Ian DeValliere

DeValliere recently made a commitment to play Division II lacrosse at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. He credits ConnectLAX, which provides lacrosse players a mobile profile and convenient communication with coaches and a comprehensive college matching service.

“Connectlax allowed me to connect with coaches on the East Coast,” said DeValliere. “As a player on the West Coast, I was able to send my film and directly talk to coaches all over the country.”

Why ConnectLAX?

“ConnectLAX is very easy to use,” DeValliere said. “Updating all of the necessary information is very easy to upload and can be managed through all of the emails that are sent out.

“I would very much recommend ConnectLAX because of how easy it is to connect with college coaches.”

What advice does DeValliere have for young lacrosse players seeking the right college?

“You have to present yourself in a professional way,” he said. “Make sure that you present yourself to them and respond to all of their emails. Coaches need to (be able) stay in touch if you truly want to be recruited.”

Another recent recruit is Middle Creek (N.C.) 2016 face-off specialist/midfielder Ryan Robley, who has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Wagner College. Robley, a transfer this year from Pleasant Grove (UT), said ConnectLAX helped him become in charge of his recruiting process.

“They helped me get my name out there,” he said. “It helps you by helping you learn to be proactive about recruiting.”

This year’s Southern region Preseason Rankings:

GirlsSoutrhern Rankings

1. Bishop Ireton (VA)

After going 20-4 last year, Bishop Ireton will return ten of their twelve starters with hopes for another strong season. Last year they only lost to out-of-team states including a close loss to Milton Georgia (12-10) midway through the season. Despite the graduation of their goalie, Olivia Cole, who now plays at Florida, Bishop Ireton returns nine Division 1 bound players, seven of whom are headed to top 20 ranked teams. The Cardinals looks to take the WCAC and the VISAA(Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association) championships again this year, while also becoming a nationwide force as they match up against powerhouses like McDonogh(MD) and Milton(GA).

2. Vero Beach (FL)

Vero Beach won their ninth straight Florida state championship game in 2014 and will look to continue that streak in 2015. The Fighting Indians went 21-3 last year with their only losses coming from northern states, including a 12-8 loss against No. 1 McDonogh School (MD)- one of McDonogh’s closest games all year. Vero Beach lost five Division 1 recruits to graduation but will return eight more for a deep bench in the 2015 season.

3. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (VA)

Despite losing the VISAA championship in a tight 9-7 matchup against Bishop Ireton, the Saints had a strong 2014 season going 27-2, including a 11-4 blowout against Milton(GA). Agnes lost five Division 1 recruits to graduation but will return ten Division 1 bound players, including two to top-20 ranked teams.

4. Milton (GA)

The nine-time Georgia state champions will return this year after a 19-3 season. All three of the Eagle’s losses were to out of state teams including Vero Beach (15-11), and St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (11-4). Milton hopes to continue making a national name for themselves this season as they will face three top Pennsylvania teams, McDonogh, Vero Beach, and Suffern (NY). They boast thirteen Division 1 bound players, having only lost two to graduation.

5. St. Anne’s-Belfield (VA)

The 19-5 Saints lost close games last year to the Collegiate School (7-6) and the Flint Hill School (14-12) and will look to make a name for themselves this year. Belfield lost no college-bound players in 2014 and will return this year with seven Division 1 recruits.

6. Walton (GA)

After falling 16-13 to Milton in the 2014 Georgia state finals, the Lady Raiders will again prove to be stiff competition for the perennial state champions this year. Having lost only one Division 1 bound player, Walton will return three Division 1 bound recruits- all juniors.

7. Collegiate School (VA)

Despite a decisive loss to Bishop Ireton midway through the season (15-7), the Cougars returned in the 2014 Virginia Independent State semifinals to challenge the eventual state champs in a 9-8 loss. Collegiate lost two Division 1 recruits but will return another two this year.

8. Charlotte Country Day School (NC)

The 14-3 Bucs went on a 12 game winning streak last season to take the North Carolina Independent school state championship. After losing only one Division 3 recruit, Charlotte CDS will return three Division 1 bound juniors.

9. Charlotte Catholic (NC)

The North Carolina (NCHSAA) state champs went 23-1 last year, falling in a close game to Kell(GA). The Cougars lost four Division 3 recruits last year but boast a strong 2015 class, with six college bound players, two of them Division 1.

10. (Tie) Hutchison School (TN)

The Sting went 22-0 last season making for a perfect season that ended in a state championship. This year they will play face off against St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (VA), St. Paul’s SG (MD), and Walton (GA), making for a more competitive out of state schedule. The Sting lost three Division 1 bound players but will return one more for the 2015 season.

10. (Tie) Benjamin School (FL)

The Benjamin School were 12-4 last year, falling to Florida powerhouse Vero Beach twice. The Buccaneers graduated star midfielder Hayley Ciklin, who now plays at Northwestern. However, they will return four Division 1 recruits, including a strong 2016 class with Riley Johnston, also destined for Northwestern.

Other schools to watch: Apex (NC) 18-2, Barron Collier (FL) 12-4, Durham Academy (NC) 17-4, Flint HIll (VA) 14-6, Lassiter (GA) 17-4, Oakton (VA) 15-3, Ponte Vedra (FL) 19-4, Robinson (VA) 12-7, St. John’s (TX) 20-4, Westfield (VA) 18-3, Woodgrove (VA) 17-4.

Boys

1. Lake Highland Prep (FL)

Last season the 20-3 Lake Highland Prep boys were a powerhouse in Florida, taking the FHSAA (Florida High School Athletic Association) state championship in a 9-2 win over the Benjamin School. One of the Highlander’s losses came in a close 14-11 matchup against No. 1 Boys’ Latin. The Big Red lost three Division 1 recruits to graduation, all of which continued on to top 20 ranked teams. Highland will return one Division 1 bound player this year.

2. Cardinal Gibbons (NC)

The 2014 North Carolina state champions went 22-0 last year. The Crusaders claimed two wins against strong out of state teams – over Germantown Academy (PA) and St. Christopher’s (VA) – and will face stern tests early this year against MIAA powers Calvert Hall (March 7) and McDonogh (March 14). Losing only one Division 1 recruit, Gibbons returns three Division 1 prospects, as well as two Division 3 recruits.

3. Episcopal School of Dallas (TX)

The Texas state champions were 18-2 last year, sustaining losses to IMG National(17-7) and Dallas Jesuit (11-7) midway through the season. The Eagles came back to beat Dallas Jesuit in the state championship (9-4). They lost two Division 1 recruits but will return two more, both of whom will head to top ten programs (Syracuse and Notre Dame).

4. Lambert (GA)

The Georgia state 6A runner-ups went 17-5 last year, losing a close game for the state title 6-5 against Roswell. All five of Lambert’s losses were by a margin of 1, making it an exciting season for the Longhorns. They lost four college recruits including, three to Division 1 programs. They will return two 2015 Division 1 recruits, one D2 recruit as well as five 2016 Division 1 commits, signaling a strong return.

5. Charlotte Latin (NC)

Charlotte Latin went 20-1 last year to take the North Carolina Independent state championship in a blowout against Durham Academy (13-4). The Hawks only loss came in a tight game against Milton from Georgia. Charlotte lost no college bound players and will return 3 Division 1 recruits for their 2015 season.

6. St. Thomas Aquinas (FL)

St. Thomas Aquinas went 15-6 last year, sustaining two losses to Florida state championship runner-up Benjamin School, and McDonogh. The Raiders lost two Division 1 bound players, including Revin Kos, a star midfielder who continued on to top ranked Johns Hopkins. For the 2015 season they return eight college recruits, four of which are Division 1.

7. St. Christopher’s (VA)

St. Christopher’s went 16-4 last year, falling in the Virginia Independent State Championship to St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (10-8). After losing only one Division 1 recruit, the Saints will return for a strong 2015 season with four Division 1 recruits.

8. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (VA)

Despite a tough regular season, going 14-8, St. Stephen’s went on to win the Virginia Independent State Championship. The Saints lost four college bound players, including two Division 1, but will return five more college commits. The rising junior class, with two Division 1 commits, will help fill the empty spots for the 2015 season.

9. Dallas Jesuit (TX)

The Texas State runner-ups went 15-3 last year, falling to Episcopal Dallas 9-4 in the state championship. The Rangers will have to replace four college recruits, three of which headed to Division 1 recruits. They will return three college recruits for the 2015 season, including two Division 1.

10. Paul VI (VA)

Paul VI had a tough season last year going 10-10 in the competitive Virginia region. However as nine of those losses were by a margin of 3 or less, the Panthers still have plenty to prove. They lost only two Division 1 bound players to graduation, but will return 10 Division 1 bound recruits this season- giving them one of the deepest benches in the region.

Under consideration: Albemarle (VA) 19-1, Cape Henry Collegiate (VA) 13-6, Charlotte Catholic (N.C.) 22-3, Collegiate School (VA) 15-8, Harrison (GA) 17-2, IMG Varsity (FL) 10-0, Loudoun County (VA) 18-2, Lovett (GA) 18-4, McCallie School (TN) 18-5, Memphis University School (TN) 17-3, Milton (GA) 18-3, Norfolk Academy (VA) 16-6, Northview (GA) 21-1, Ponte Vedra (FL) 21-3, Robinson (VA) 18-3, Roswell (GA) 17-3, South County (VA) 15-2, St. Anne’s-Belfield (VA) 11-7, St. Mark’s (TX) 10-4, The Woodlands (TX) 18-5, Westminster (GA) 18-3, Woodberry Forest (VA) 12-6

From Press Release

Many elite boys’ and girls’ high school lacrosse teams will compete in the sixth annual Brine King of the Spring Face-Off Classic, scheduled for March 6-8 in the Triangle area of North Carolina. Hosting this year’s tournament are Durham Academy and Cardinal Gibbons High School.HS Tournaments

Perhaps the biggest game is slated for March 7 when N.C. defending Class 1-2-3 state champion Cardinal Gibbons – No. 2 in the TopLaxRecruits.com Preseason Southern Rankings – faces MIAA power Calvert Hall.

“The King of the Spring has emerged as a one of a-kind event in the high school lacrosse community and has quickly become an annual destination for some of the best programs in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast,” said tournament director and Durham Academy boys’ lacrosse coach Jon Lantzy, who notes that this year’s event includes girls’ match-ups for the first time. “As coaches and educators, we are always looking for meaningful opportunities to expose our student-athletes to the true meaning of service.

“We will once again use this weekend as on opportunity for not only great competition on the field, but a chance to inspire our student-athletes to use their many talents to make their communities a better place.”

This year’s tournament supports the efforts of Inspire Media, a nonprofit that encourages people to perform bold and extraordinary acts of kindness that have the potential to inspire millions when their story is told. The founder of Inspire Media is Chris Rosati, an alumnus of Durham Academy who has, in fact, inspired millions with his selfless acts of kindness in the face of unthinkable adversity.

Perhaps best known to regular viewers of CBS Evening News as “the Krispy Kreme Bandit” for realizing his dream of “hijacking” a Krispy Kreme truck and giving out doughnuts to strangers, Rosati has refused to allow his diagnosis of ALS to dim his bright spirit – and he’s brought plenty of new friends along for the ride.

“About a year ago, I, along with some friends, founded the nonprofit Inspire Media Network and invited students to submit their Big Ideas for the Greater Good (BIGG),” Rosati said. “A BIGG is an out of the-ordinary act that spreads joy and inspires others to do the same. We funded a handful of ideas, filmed them and held a red carpet, Hollywood-style screening.”

Rosati hopes that players, coaches and families involved with the King of the Spring tournament will similarly be inspired to dream BIGG.

“Chris is a pillar of perseverance for so many,” Lantzy said. “Chris has shown and continues to show that how you ‘live’ your life is what really counts. Millions of people – some we know, many we don’t – are dealt seemingly insurmountable circumstances but find a way to overcome and inspire all those around them. Chris shows us all that all things are possible with the power of a positive attitude and the support of someone that cares.”

Over the course of three days, the 28 teams participating in the King of the Spring tournament will compete in 25 games on fields around the Triangle. Joining hosts DA and Cardinal Gibbons in sponsoring the event are Brine Lacrosse, Triangle Orthopedic Associates, Fusion Lacrosse, Muscle Milk, Lacrosse.com and Republic Wireless.
